Jackie McLean, as MC/Event Facilitator, coordinated appearances of performers and speakers superbly as she moved among them in what appeared to be a performance all its own

And our ED/CEO, Christina? All over the place cooking, making hotdogs, directing youth workers, greeting, lifting, pulling, and….  Making the event a success.

Meanwhile, young people enjoyed balloon art, face painting, a petting zoo, and hours of fun in the "Space Jumper" air-filled creation.

Youth workers, members of  the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) programs at Hoke and Scotland High Schools, were invaluable as they provided their hands and energy for the day.

Juneteenth Festival  2002 in Hoke county  also got a shot in the arm with significant  guidance and support from Mona Powell of "Color Me Angel" Productions in Fayetteville. Mona is most noted for her wonderful  Black Angel creations. However, she also puts together exciting community events as well,  attested by attendees Women's Trade Show of 2002  hosted in Fayetteville this past May. We offer our thanks to Mona.  View "Color Me Angel" on line at: www.colormeangel.com

Our Special Thanks to the Juneteenth Planning Committee, CDC Staff,Volunteer Extraordinaire Dee Jefferson, and everyone in the Hoke community who pitched in to make this second year's celebration a success. We are enthused about an even better forecast for the third festival in 2003. See You There---Cheers!

Hoke's  2nd Annual Juneteenth Festival... A Major Celebration

Bishop Robert McRae and wife Shirley attended the festival and watched for Raeford Dance Arts to perform with a group of other  onlookers. Afi Osakwe and Joel Bryant are sighted in background.

Minister Debra Bryant from Charlotte performs on stage.  Her music captivated us all. What a powerful voice!

Ms. Jackie and a few folk...just having some fun. After all...that's what Juneteenth is about. If you missed this year's fun--mark your calendar for 2003.
