Community Agencies
Community partnering agencies of this innovative project help provide alternative community-based strategies with real-world messages on primary and secondary pregnancy prevention; AIDS, HIV, STD, and STI prevention; responsible parenting; and substance abuse prevention and intervention.  Those partners include: Hoke County Sheriff's Office, Juvenile Courts System of Judicial District 16-A, Sandhills Mental Health/Developmental Disabilities/Substance Abuse Prevention (MH/DD/SAP) Center, Hoke Health Center , First Health of the Carolinas, Hoke County public schools, and other community agencies that serve juveniles and youth.

Participation
TIA offers its innovative strategies to juvenile offenders and most "at risk" youth between the ages of 11 and 18.  The program will operate daily Monday through Friday.  Day-reporting and after school options are available for out-of-school participants.  Participation plans range from 10 days to one year and requires parental /guardian participation, Risk Management Assessment, Individual Progress and Development Profiles (IPDPs), pre- and post tests.  Rules and regulations are strictly enforced.

Major Goals

  • Increase ability to make different and informed decisions and practice problem-solving skills
  • Increase knowledge surrounding consequences and outcomes of risky behavior versus non-risky behavior
  • Complete community service projects and learn the basic tenets of civic responsibility through service learning and reflection
  • Experience and demonstrate increased potential for understanding the value of choosing a different path and positive life perspective rather than delinquency and risky behavior.
