2003  Transition Photos

On June 6, 2003, twenty-four (24) students who had spent an average of 30-90 days in the  NC Crime Commission funded Juvenile Prevention Pilot Project "Turning It Around (TIA)" were treated to a transition ceremony at the Hoke County Public Library. Each student had successfully completed 20 hours of service learning contacts in community-based projects, reached benchmark achievements identified in their individual development plans, and had significantly improved academic grades and  successfully passed end of grade (EOG)/end of course (EOC) tests.  Their parents were invited --most were present--and the event featured awards and gifts presentations, testimonies by parents and students, good food, and lots of great fun. We invite you to view the ceremony through these snapshots. Pilot Year I of  the JHIVP/TIA program was a tremendous success measured by student accomplishments, exceeded numerical student enrollments, and student and parent evaluation and feedback. We are enthused for Pilot Year II and look forward to students that have transitioned into an 'inner circle' of responsibility and care to serve as peer leaders and learners for a new crop of Hoke County youth.
