"State Budget Outlook Remains Bleak"

States face the most dire fiscal situation since World War II.

Fiscal Survey of States

Published twice annually by the National Association of State Budget Officers (NASBO) and the National Governors Association (NGA).  The survey presents aggregate and individual data on the states’ general fund receipts, expenditures and balances. Al-though not the totality of state spending, these funds are used to finance most broad-based state services and are the most important elements in determining the fiscal health of the states.

FTC

Federal Trade Commission enforces a variety of federal antitrust and consumer protection laws, seeks to ensure that the nation's markets function competitively, are vigorous, efficient, and free of undue restrictions;  works to enhance the smooth operation of the marketplace by eliminating acts or practices that are unfair or deceptive, stopping actions that threaten consumers' opportunities to exercise informed choice;  undertakes economic analysis to support its law enforcement efforts and to contribute to the policy deliberations of the Congress, the Executive Branch, other independent agencies, and state and local governments when requested; and advances the policies underlying Congressional mandates through cost-effective non-enforcement activities, such as consumer education.
