LEARN NORTH CAROLINA, a program of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Education, is a statewide network of educators using the power of the Internet to improve K-12 education in North Carolina. The website offers a wide array of quality resources for K-12 classroom instruction and teacher professional development, all tied to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.

NC Education Directory

Education Directory of North Carolina contains the phone number and address of every North Carolina public, federal or charter school and public school system; the phone number every employee of the Department of Public Instruction, members of the State Board of Education and the Superintendent; contact information for educational associations and organizations, advisory councils, educational material suppliers and sellers; and statistical summaries of local public school systems, and a list of all the state and territorial Superintendents in the U.S.

DNPE

North Carolina Department of Administration, Division of Non-Public Education  is the only legislatively authorized NC state government office giving oversight to private elementary/secondary schools in North Carolina.  It derives its authority from Chapter 115C, Article 39 of the North Carolina General Statutes.  This article sets forth a list of requirements to be met by such schools.  DNPE has the legal responsibility to verify that all private elementary/secondary schools are meeting those requirements by periodically inspecting certain school records.

EdLiNC Education and Libraries Network Coalition was formed in 1995 to represent the viewpoint of public and private schools and libraries in the FCC proceeding dealing with the implementation of the Telecommunications Act of 1996. The Coalition seeks to expand the use of educational technologies in schools and libraries by making sure that these entities receive affordable rates guaranteed to them in the Universal Service Provisions of the Telecommunications Act.

Afterschool Alliance is a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of afterschool programs and advocating for quality, affordable programs for all children. It is supported by a group of public, private and nonprofit organizations that share the Alliance's vision of ensuring that all children have access to afterschool programs by 2010.

North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention Educational Services promotes public safety and juvenile delinquency prevention, intervention, and treatment through the operation of a seamless, comprehensive juvenile justice system. All of the academic and vocational courses are competency-based and are developed from the standard course of study adopted by the N.C. Department of Public Instruction. State adopted textbooks are utilized in classes, and teachers write lesson plans to address learning style characteristics and brain processing preferences. Students with identified disabilities are provided appropriate special education services.

NCCAI NC Child Advocacy Institute is an independent, non-profit, non-partisan, multi-issue organization that influences public policy in favor of all children and youth below the age of eighteen residing in North Carolina. This particular link has current information on the Leandro case.
TIA

Blue Springs-Hoke County Community Development Corporation's "Turning It Around: Offering Juveniles New Life Paths and New Life Perspectives" (TIA) is a rural community-based project of the Blue Springs Hoke County Community Development Corporation.  It is supported directly by North Carolina's Governor's Crime Commission and provides targeted prevention and intervention strategies for youthful offenders and other vulnerable youth.
